During a vaginal delivery, some women will require a cut (episiotomy) of may get a genital area tear to enable the delivery. This will heal well in most cases. However, for some women the appearance and function of the perineum will be significantly altered, resulting in a loss of perineal firmness, pain, splitting during intercourse or for some, unsightly, with resulting embarrassment and or loss of sexual confidence.

Perineoplasty is the surgical procedure to restore the perineal function and appearance. It is combined with vaginal tightening in most cases for optimal results.
